Comparing 2 Channel idents

The Channel 4 indent starts off normally looking like a real life moment but then you see random objects and signs coming together and forming the Channel 4 logo. The indent shows us that Channel 4 is based around real life, having shows like 'Come dine with me', 'How clean is your house', 'Location Location Location' and much more. Near the end of the ident you see the animated part where the channel logo comes together, that represents how channel 4 does not only revolve around real life shows, but also unrealistic stuff, like 'The Simpsons', 'Smallville', 'Misfits' and more.

On the other hand you have the E4 ident which only stays normal for a couple of seconds and then turns extremely colourful (pre-dominatley purple) and has toys coming to life, plants growing inside the room and other goofy stuff which basically represents how quirky and hip E4 is. It uses the unusualness of the ident to catch the attention of young people and keep them interested in the channel since they have shows like The big bang theory and scrubs which have a comedic value to them.

Channel 4's target audience is pretty much everyone since they have shows like 'The Simpsons' for the kids, and 'Countdown' and 'Deal or no deal' for the middle aged and elderly people. They also have shows for both genders, for example all Gok Wan shows would appeal to the women due to the fact that women love fashion, and shows like The home show would appeal to men. Channel 4 also welcomes all ethnicities as they make shows like My big fat gypsy wedding which is currently the most watched show on Channel 4. Channel 4 also has shows like 'Embarrassing bodies' and 'Beauty and the Beast' which shows people that there's nothing wrong with being disabled. And finally, Channel 4 can also appeal to all economical classes since they have shows like 'Location Location Location' where you see beautiful houses across the world that cost a lot of money which would interest the rich folk. And then there's shows like 'How clean is your house' and 'Help, my house is falling down' which reaches out to not so rich people and shows them that they could get some help if they contact the right people.

Overall I think that the E4 ident is slightly better since it gives us a better taste of what the channel is actually like, which is pretty much playful and fun as illustrated by the type of shows it has, such as 'How I met your mother' which is a funny show and captivates the young peoples mind with humour. Whereas the channel 4 ident could bore the impatient people causing them to switch channels and find something more interesting.

Channel idents

Channel idents are the first clear views of what a channel stands for and is the strongest visual representation of the channels. They are basically the short clips that are played before each show starts to make sure the viewers know what channel they're watching and relate the main characteristics of the indent to normal things such as colours and objects to remind them of it. Over time, the expenses on idents have increased drastically.
The main characters most idents share are logos at the end of the indent, one colour dominating most of the screen and no narration.

Bin tutorial

First of all, open up Final cut pro and press Cmd + B to open up a bin. Or right click in your browser and press 'New bin'

Then label the bin with whichever format files you're going to put inside it.

Make as many bins as you need for the different file formats you're going to use.

To make things easier, alter the positions of different tabs for your favourite ones, preferable ones are Log Note and Good tabs. Log note lets you type up a little descrption for the file and the Good tab allows you to tick good clips and leave bad ones unticked.

Then inside of the bins, name your files to make it easier for you to find them.
