Evaluation of the advert

In the advert, two guys decide to play a little bit of playstation, and to their surprise, the video games seem so realistic that they find themselves BEING the video game characters and doing the same moves as them.  That represents the realism of video games in the current generation.

I think what went well was how we angled up the camera shots with how the video games looked like as well as how we used some of the editing tools, with the transitions and the colour correction. I also like the way we set up the main part of the advert with what we filmed at the beginning as it didn't stall for anything and went straight into the action-y type of stuff. I think we made it in such manner where there weren't any dull moments in it, as backed up by some of my peers who stated the same thing.

What I really liked about making the advert was mainly the filming and the editing, due to the fact that it was extremely fun to do and was challenging at times to replicate the camera angles, and I find challenges rather enjoyable. Editing was extremely fun to do as I was learning new things that could make my advert, and future projects look a lot more professional.

The part of the advert I'm really pleased about is how some of the real life angles matched up with the in-game angles, especially the beginning scene, I think we nailed it perfectly with the colours and the angles because it matched up super well and as soon as we put that piece together, my partner and I were extremely happy over the fact of how good it looked.

I think our persuasive technique was that the users of the playstation 3 would be able to control anything to they're liking and be whatever they want to be, as that's exactly what video games offer. There are many different game genres that allow you to be anything, from aliens to werewolf's!

I think that in a way, our advert worked really well and would sell a decent amount of units of the product if showed to a large scale of people. But on the other hand, there's ASA who would possibly find it too violent to air on TV as the only footage we used was from fighting games, as some of my peers pointed out.

The main target audience for our advert would be from the ages of 16-25, due to the fact that we used a genre of video games mostly rated 15+ and could possibly influence little kids in a bad way if they were to watch it a couple of times over, as kids enjoying anything that's extraordinary and amazing looking in their eyes.

The feedback I received was really good, most, if not all, of my peers seemed to enjoy the advert fairly well and thought it was very well setup with the editing and appreciated the hard work we put into the advert, with the filming, angling up with shots and of course, the editing. People also thought that the music was perfect for the type of video we were going for, as it had some energetic feel to it and made it exciting to watch.

The first time we went out to film we were completely clueless, we had no idea about the angles we needed to use because we didn't download any videos of the games we wanted to do, and we had no good way of starting the advert, we ultimately wasted 3 hours of that day which could've been used up on the editing to make the advert look a lot better.

The next time we do something like this again, we're going to have to come in a lot more prepared, with an already written script and all the videos we require, if any at all.

Evaluation


I think that overall, my shooting scenario turned out fairly well, as it manages to tell a short little story in a comical manner. Some of the strenghts of my video include the angles I used for some of the shots, due to the fact that they fitted the scene perfectly and made the video feel a little bit better. But of course, the angles of the shots didn’t make a scene good, the acting did too and in my opinion, some of the scenes weren’t as good as I could’ve hoped. Also, the voice quality in some of the scenes is inaudible and extremely hard to hear, which ruins the scenes.
